About our director

On October 9, 1950, Charlotte Elaine became the newest addition to the Hoffman family in Overland Park, Kansas.  In 1956, her Dad transferred to Convair (now Lockheed) and that summer they became Texans.  Her sister, Susan, started high school at Arlington Heights High School, brother, Scott, started 7th grade at Stripling Middle School, and Charlotte began 1st grade at North Hi Mount Elementary School.

During her grade school years, Charlotte wanted to be a nurse – until she volunteered at a hospital and decided she might be better suited for teaching.  Her college years were spent at Tarleton State College (now University) where she earned a Bachelors degree in Music Education.  Since that time, Charlotte has spent three years in New York City working in the business field as a clerk, two years as a clerk for Astroworld Theme Park and a few other offices in Houston, and the last 21 years here in Fort Worth as a secretary at Cornelius-Pierce Consulting Engineers, Inc.

By now you’re thinking, what does this have to do with music?  Absolutely nothing!  However, Charlotte has been associated with Sweet Adelines International for over 20 years in several different capacities; chorus member, quartet member, assistant director, interim director, and director.  She is currently directing Panther City Chorus in Fort Worth, Texas.  She has performed as the tenor in the quartet “Mid-Life Crisis” and is currently singing tenor with “Chordially Yours Quartet.”  Charlotte also serves on the Region 10 staff as the Directors Coordinator.

Charlotte’s Sweet Adeline career began in 1973 with the Manhattan Chapter.  She was first placed as a baritone, later switching to tenor.  Upon her return to Texas in 1976, she joined the Port of Harmony Chapter in Houston.  And since her move to Fort Worth in 1978, Charlotte has sung with or directed the Westside Edition, Fort Worth Metro, Mid Cities Sound, Lone Star, and, now, Panther City Chapters.

Charlotte’s favorite thing to do is act.  She had the honor of playing the lead in her church’s first musical, “Hannah”.  Other musical performances include “Sound of Music”, as a nun, “South Pacific”, as a French-speaking maid (of which she understood nothing!), “Nunscence II”, again as a nun, and two productions of “Godspell”, playing whomever.  She also had the opportunity to sing on the Carnegie Hall Stge with 250 other singers as they sang “The Requiem” with John Rutter as the conductor.
